Send to from anywhere with office 2003 sp1

If I do a send to->mail recipient from an office application OR from the
desktop, I get an outlook message window. I can address the email normally
BUT I have to click SEND about 15 times to get it to actually send. In the
meantime Outlook is non-responsive. I can still go to all other applications
but Outlook is just ornery.

Anybody seen this or have a solution to this $#@#! issue?
