Setting up for the first time..

I am a new user, I need to start by getting a bood..can anyone suggest a good
one?

My question is related to setting up projects and subtiers within that
project. I have used Timberline, but not Project so I don't really know
where to start.

I am trying to setup up 6 different projects within one Master Plan. Within
each of those projects I need cateories such as soft costs, indirect,
construction etc. Lastly, I need multiple costs codes within each of those
categories I want to be able to print reports at each of those levels.
Basically having reports that summarize cost information for the entire
project all the way down to very detailed information by cost code within
groups within projects within the overall master project.

Can anyone tell me if this is possible in project and how to do this? Or
where to get good detailed information on this type of setup.
Thank you.

Project is not a project accounting system - it is a work scheduling and
budget estimaing ing application. The outline structure in the task list
does not correspond to categories, budget or otherwise, such as your listing
of cost types. The outline is a breakdown of the project's deliverables
into its various components, drilling down to more and more detail until the
end result is a list of the specific work activities to be done my resources
that must be completed in order to complete the project. The top outline
level would be the phases of the project - if you were putting up abuilding
they might be acquire prioperty, lay foundation, erect structure, finish
interior, do landscaping, movein. Yes, you estimate and track the costs the
tasks, and you can use the user-defined fields to create reports by budget
category or cost centre and roll them up in to the summary levels on a
rudimentary level but Project is NOT financial management software.
