Shared Resource Pool Issues

Hello,

We are currently in the process of upgrading our machines to project
2003 pro from project 2002 standard. We don't have project 2003 server
installed yet, but that will be done soon.

The issue we are having is with our shared resource pool. When trying
to edit the resources in project 2003 pro, say deleting, the screen
seems to just refresh, but no dialogue boxes come up, and the resources
are not changed or removed. Some of them are in red, and some are black
in text color. When trying to do the same thing in project 2002
standard, the resources can be changed or removed. We have a master
project that links with several smaller project files as well as the
shared resource pool.

We are also running Windows 2000, SP4 with MS Office 2000 SP3. Project
2003 Pro is upgraded to SP2 as well.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi,

One is never sure about these strange behaviours, but I have the experience
that 2003 reacts more severely to errors in the input than 2002.
Open the pool read-write, Tools, resoruces, Share resources, and look for
files that no longer exist or have moved or are diubles of othe rfiles;
Clean up through Break Link, then save.
Better? Or still as lousy?

Jan,

Thanks for your quick response. I did find that cleared up some
resource issures. There are still some that are bolded in red. I can
edit some of the properties, but cannot delete them. What does the red
mean?

Thanks again,

Hi,

The red means that the resource is overallocated during at least 1 minute
due to the combined assignments of all projects connected to the pool.

Note that if the resource is used by one of the sharing links, MSP will not
let you delete the resource. You first have to break the sharing link that
uses the resources and then MSP will let you delete the resource.
