Sharing Email with Outlook 2003

Outlook 2003 running with MS Exchange Server

I recently tried sharing a subfolder under my Outlook 2003 Inbox with
a co-worker. When they tried to access the subfolder, it was not listed
in the drop down list box of available folders. Only major folders, like Inbox
were listed. So, I shared my entire Inbox as well as the subfolder. Once I did this,
they could see all the email in my Inbox, but none of the subfolders.

Geez. What a pain. So - can you not share Inbox subfolders?
Does sharing only work with major folders in Outlook? And if so,
then why do you have the option to share a subfolder? Am I doing
something wrong (right click the folder, click Sharing, and set the permissions).

To access a shared folder that isn't one of the folders listed on the File | Open | Other User's Folder dialog, the mailbox owner needs to grant "folder visible" permission to the root of the mailbox and any other parent folders of the shared folder, as well as appropriate permission -- at least Reviewer -- on the shared folder itself.

The user who needs access then goes into Tools | E-mail Accounts or Tools | Services (depending on the Outlook version), brings up the properties for the Exchange Server service, and on the Advanced tab, adds the mailbox.

For more information on folder permissions, with how-to screen shots, see http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/permissions.htm and http://office.microsoft.com/assistance/preview.aspx?AssetID=HA011134811033

Thanks so much. The step I was missing was sharing the root
of the mailbox.
