"Shortcut menus in PowerPoint"

K

ksteen2553

I have tried to deploy this feature as a adjunct to my toolbar feature set.
However, whenever I select it, it appears and then disappears when I close
the toolbar modification dialogue box. What is this all about?

I'm not sure what you mean here.

Did you try to install an add-in?

Can you give us the exact steps you're using to "deploy" and information on
what "shortcut menus" you're referring to?

I go to VIEW>TOOLBARS>CUSTOMIZE, then I choose “Shortcut Menus.†I look up at
the toolbar in the open presentation window, and a secondary toolbar appears
which allows for the editing of text, table, draw, & slide show. When I close
the customize dialogue box for toolbars, this specialized toolbar disappears.
What do you think? It seems like a pretty useful feature to have available.

Oooh, yeah, I can see where that toolbar would be useful.

Unfortunately, it disappears here, too, and I can't get it to stay visible.
I think it's probably a bug.

I tried docking it, and that didn't help. So I tried moving the commands on
it to another toolbar, but that didn't work, either.

You can actually build your own version of this by going to
View>Toolbars>Customize>Commands and choosing "built-in menus." You can drag
those to a new toolbar, and you can add other commands from the Commands tab
by dragging them to the new menus on the new toolbar.

Thanks for your help. I really, truly appreciate the effort. This "bug" seems
very strange in such a refined product as PowerPoint is, is supposed to be.

This toolbar is only visible long enough for you to add items to it (similar
to adding icons to other toolbars, etc.), then they are subsequently
accessed by right-clicking (Shortcut menus) on various items throughout
PowerPoint. Of course it depends on which shortcut menu you added the new
items to. They cannot remain visible as a regular toolbar!

Aha! It makes so much more sense when you understand how it's supposed to
work!

Thanks, Bill.

<CLICK!> [looks up] Wow, neat lightbulb! Bright, too.

Hey, you can even add items to the SlideShow popup menu. The couple I tried
don't seem to *work* mind you ... they're grayed out, but it's a start.

Thanks!
