Sizing Text Box Word 97

Before when I inserted a text box I used to be able to click on it to drag
and change the size. I can no longer do it that way. When I click on it it
automatically enlarges to 5 x 5. I have to format the text box, select the
size tab and enter dimensions to have any control over the size I want to
make it. I would like to get back the click and drag option. Thank you for

Is this happening in all documents? All new documents? Only in a particular
document?

It is happening in all documents, new and previously saved.
