slack time looks incorrect goes pass last task

detailed gantt view shows free slack as a blue-green bar. In my project, some
tasks show an extremely long free slack time. Example: Task B is succeeded
by Task C. Task B finishs 2 days before Task C needs to start. So Task B has
2 days of free slack. However, MS Project shows that Task B has twice as many
days or more (e.g 4 or 10days).

I have 172 tasks in this project. Looks like 6 tasks have this problem.
Can't figure out why the free slack is so long. In fact, the slack even goes
beyond the completion of the very last task in the project. That is
confusing. How can free slack go beyond the scheduled completion of the last
task?

Any Ideas?

Thx

Double click on the task that has this problem of slack being drawn
past the finish of the project. Click on the Advanced Tab and see if
there is a date in the Deadline Date field. If so then I think the date
shown there will be the date to which the slack bar is being drawn for
that task. The Deadline Date effects slack calculations.

I think Brian's explanation is most likely. Three other possibilities I can
think of:
1 - corrupted file
2 - virtual memory shortage
3 - bar style definitions

Regarding #3, is it possible that your bar style definitions are causing you
to see the baseline instead of the current plan? In that case, if the
schedule has slipped, the lag bars would run past the apparent finish date.
