SLOW Access to folders

C

Any file access that happens with a MS Office product (word, excel,
ppt), literally takes at least 45 seconds. So if I try to open file,
by clicking open,
then click on a drive (c:),
then click in a folder
then click on a subfolder

each click takes at least 45 seconds before anything is displayed.
This happens on local drives and network drives. basically it happens
anytime i try to navigate my folders in an MS Office application.

Explorer works the way it should. No problems. I can even double
click on a word or excel file and it will open instantaneously.

This started two weeks ago and I have no idea how. One of my co
workers is experiencing the same thing.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Right-click on the My Computer icon on the Windows desktop,
left-click on Disconnect Network Drive, and disconnect any mapped
drives that are not currently available.

So, this doesn't actually fix the problem, does it? It just gets around the
problem, right?
