slow opening up and opening documents

It takes forever to open a word, excel, etc. document and the programs
themselves. I get a message in the bottom right corner of my monitor
"scanning for viruses" I've done all word updates that I need. Why am I
having this problem. I work on a network with 3 other people and only 1 of
them as my same problem.

Disable the Office Plugin that comes with Symantec/Norton AntiVirus. See
