Small office alternative to outlook exchange

Damo

Hi,

I only have two PCs and want a way to have the same email address and
diary/calendar functions on both PCs. Obviously exchange server is out of
the question for such a small setup. Google has bought me lots of
alternatives including outlook plugins so the pst file can be shared and
even web based programs. At the moment one PC has Outlook and the other
Outlook 2003 and they are both checking the same email address which gets a
problem when finding old messages etc.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a reliable alternative that will let
me:

1) View the same inbox in real time on multiple computers (ie if someone
reads an email message it is marked as read on all computers)
2) View the same tasks, appointments and calendar as above

?

Are the outlook plugins reliable or should I stay away from them?

I have heard of ACT and Goldmine but have not used these in person. I have
played around with a few online alternatives that look promising (logging in
from any PC has appeal) but who knows if that "free" website will still be
up in 12months time?

Thank you for any suggestions,

Damian

1. Yahoo
2. MSN
3. mDaemon mail server (not terribly expensive and is very exchange like)
4. Look for an OSS server.

I was not aware that Yahoo & MSN had calender and diary functions and could
check existing POP email (although I guess the mail could be forwarded).
/Goes and reactivates account......hey it does have a calendar. This could
work as a fallback although it is a little slow...actually it is really
slow.

I am not too keen for a mail server program, was really hoping there might
be some compact third party apps that could do it, there are a few I found
but they usually only do contacts and calendar or email, never both it
seems.

No other suggestions anyone?

Thanks in advance,
Damo

We've had decent luck with OfficeCalendar from Lookout Software.

http://www.officecalendar.com

Combine that with a commercial IMAP service and you're all set.
