hi Emily,

When you split a task in MS Project it means that you intend to work on the
task in two (or multiple) intervals. You split the task when you need to
interrupt work on a task, so that part of it starts later in the schedule.
This essentially means that the finish date of the task will change.

Hi,

First, I cannot reproduce this. When I split a task, it is the finish day
that changes, not the Start date. I hve experimented with some constraints,
but to no avail. I cannot change the start date by splitting a task.

On the other hand, I do not understand you when you say that:

"the starting date has changed and got four 10days.."
A date is a date, not four ten days, so sorry, I fail to see what you mean.

You ask what you should do... IMHO it is much more efficient to handle this
as 4 tasks with FS links and a 5 day lag between them.

Hope this helps,

Emily..

yeah..I forgot to put 'two blocks'
so I mean 'I need to split 40 days task into two blocks of 10 days with a 5
day break. but when I tried, the starting date has changed and got four
10days..', cause isn't that two blocks mean..that I have to have two ten
days??

isn't the starting date changed because my program is ms project 2000??

well..thanks for your help anyway..^^

Hi Emily,

Howsoever, splitting does NOT change start date in my world (and I have
tried it in 2000 as well)
Can you send me the file with the exact description of what you did?
My e-mail address can be found on my website
