Start-to-Finish dependency between summary task & predecessor

Henry St Aubyn

Hello,
I am trying to shedule a summary task (ST1) to start so that it finishes at
the same time that a sub-task under another summary task (ST2) begins. ST2
lasts 8 weeks and ST1 lasts 3 weeks, the sub-task under ST2 begins 6 weeks
into it. So, I want ST1 to start 3 weeks into ST2. With me so far?!?
Project won't let me assign a 'Start-to-Finish' dependency between the
sub-task and ST1 so I am forced to use a 'Start-to-Start' dependency with a 3
week time lag. Obviously this is not ideal, as any change to ST1's duration
will not change its start date - to do this requires me to manually change
the time lag to equal the duration of ST1.
If anyone can understand this and help me I would be very grateful,

Henry

Greetings.

Have you tried the following?
ST3 is the sub-task of T2

ST3 - predecessor ST1 Finish-Start
ST1 - as a summary task can't be set to as late as possible, set all
of it's sub-tasks to as late as possible

Hope this helps.

Take care,

Or, you might google the NG for linking summary tasks and find out a
whole lot of other reasons why most seasoned schedulers never link
summary tasks.
