Summary Task set at 99% Complete

Kathleen

My problem may be the same as another item posted regarding summary tasks and
% complete not updating.

In my scenario, all sub-tasks are sub-tasks are 100% complete but the
summary task remains at 99% complete.
I have no Milestone tasks in this scenario.
I've verified the Auto Calculate feature is turned on.

Will Project 2003 Service Pack 2 fix this problem?

Kathleen,
Before you think about "fixing a problem" we need to make sure there
really is one. Are you ABSOLUTELY sure all subtasks under the summary
are 100% complete? An external linked task that is not complete perhaps?
Do you have any links on the summary line? Is every task line (i.e. ID)
under the summary line accounted for?

In your post you say that "...sub-tasks are sub-tasks are 100%
complete...". What do you mean by "sub-tasks are sub-tasks"?

John,
Yes, all my sub-tasks are 100%.
I've gone to the extend of resetting all the sub-tasks to 0% complete, then
updating them to 100% complete, the summary task updates to 99% complete.
I've even saved the project as another version and removed all predecessors,
thinking I had a link to another task that wasn't complete.
I don't have any external tasks.

What is very confusing is that I actually have some summary tasks that did
update to 100% complete when the sub-tasks were updated to 100% complete.
As for the "...sub-tasks are sub-tasks are 100%
complete..." this was a typo, I meant the sub-tasks are 100% complete.
Thnx for responding.

This is actually a very real world scenario: 99% of projects are 99%
complete 99% of the time. Project at last has incorporated some real world
ideas that we MVP's suggested. Other ones were the interface to Xbox for
shooting down unrealistic expectations and a scapegoat column for the
Resource Sheet!!!

As John says, a linked task, resources assigned to a summary task bar
incomplete, anything can cause this.

Another test is to view the Resources Sheet and apply the work table. Look
for any resources who haven't done 100% of their work (Remaining Work>0. If
there is one, filter for that resource in the Gantt View and see what it
shows.

Kathleen,
Somewhere in the back of my head (and there's a whole lotta useless
stuff back there), I seem to recall seeing this phenomenon once before
but I don't remember what I did about it.

I could probably rack my brain for some things to try but often it is
just easier to work with the actual file. Would it be possible to send
me your file via e-mail? If it has sensitive information, you can
download a simple macro from fellow MVP, Jack Dahlgren's, website that
will remove all sensitive information. Jack's site is at:
http://masamiki.com/project/macros.htm
Look for the macro called "scrub". If you do decide to send it, please
zip it first.

I do have resources asigned on the summary tasks. I see the percent
allocation for the resources either exceeded or didn't equal 100%. By
changing the allocations to zero the % completed changed to 100%. I'll never
forget this one.
Thnx for your assistance.

Kathleen,
You're welcome. You might want to take a look at our FAQ on assigning
resources to summary lines. Go to our MVP website at:

Take a look at FAQ 49 - Summary Task Resources
