Task Duration Calculation

P

Phanidhar

Hi,
I'm using MSP 2003. In my project we work for 9 hrs per day and to reflect
it, I've changed the "hours per day" option in Tools->Options-> Calendar.
I've also set the project calender accordingly using Project->Change Working
Time option.

Now, the MSP shows the correction duration but the actual distribution of
effort is still 8 hrs per day only. For e.g. if I've the work as 27 hrs, the
duration field would display as 3 days, but the actual work allocation would
span for 4 days (8 + 8 +8+3). So the difference between the start date and
end date is actually not three days but 4 days.

How can I set the MSP to allocate 9 hrs per day actually?

Thanks
Phanidhar

Hi Phanidhar,

When you changed the calendar through Tools > Change Working Time, did
you select all working days in the calendar by clicking and dragging the
M, T, W, TH, F column headings and then changing the working hours?
It's possible that you only changed one or two working days in the
calendar and not all.

Are your resources' base calendars the project calendar? (See the
resource sheet Base Calendar field). If you are using a calendar other
than "Standard" you'll need to manually change the base calendar for the
resources.

Also, you may wish to show the time as well as date information for the
tasks (Tools > Options, View tab, change the date format.) The
display of time information may make it easier to track down the error.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
