Task Duration Driven by Resource Allocation?

Tony

I was wondering if there is a way to control the duration of a task by
assigning resources to it?

For example, if I have a 40 hour task and assign one resource to it
(resource is set to 8hr work day) the task would be completed in 5 working
days. If I assign two resources, the task would be complete in 2.5 days.

Is this possible?

Thank you,
Tony

Hi Tony,

What you describe (5 day duration task with one resource, 2.5 day
duration with two resources) is what Project refers to as effort-driven.
By default if you assign a single resource at 100% assignment units to
the 5-day duration task, Project will calculate 40 hours of work based
upon the formula:

Duration * assignment units = Work.

If the task is effort driven, Project says the total amount of work
originally calculated (40 hours) is now going to be performed by two
resources, therefore the duration modifies to 2.5 days.

Hi Tony,

Yes.
Before assigning the resource define Work (f.i. insert the work column)
Then when you assign (a) resource(s) Duration will recalculate.
