Tasks In Project 98

I have a serieso ft unrelated tasks in a Project. For each
of them I want to specify a Start Date, a Finish Date and
a Duration. I do not want Project to do any auto
calculation of any of these values, I need them to remain
exacrly as entered. However, when I modify the start or
end date, the duration is automatically updated.

How can I stop this auto modification from taking place

Stephen,
Whoa!! If you are planning on doing the scheduling yourself, why use
Project at all? Excel is a much better applicatiion to simply compile a
list of tasks, particularly if they are all truly unrelated.

However, just for reference, in Project (and any other project
management application), the start date, duration and finish date are
directly related. Duration is the difference, in working time (i.e.
hours, days, weeks, etc.) between the start date and the finish Date.
The three parameters are not independent and cannot be made to be
independent. Are you perhaps confusing duration with work effort? Work
is the amount of effort, usually in hours, that one or more resouces
expends in accomplishing the task. Work is independent, to a degree,
from duration. For example, a 5 day task (duration) may have two
resources assigned, each with 10 hours of Work (i.e. 20 hours total).
That work may be spread over the 5 day duration or it may occur at the
beginning or end of the duration or any combination thereof. Project is
used to track that effort and provide several metrics on how well the
task is doing compared to the original plan.

Hope this helps.
