the file appears to be corrupted

Trying to open WordPerfect (5.1 for dos) files and we get the error message
"the file appears to be corrupted"
It appears that it may have something to do with SP3. If we roll back to SP2
the problem goes away, until another update is installed.
The files open with Word 2007 just fine.
