Thumbnail size in Word documents

How does one GLOBALLY, rather than individually, change the size of all the
thumbnails in a Word document created by sending a Powerpoint presentation to
Word as a handout? Alternatively, how can one set the size of the thumbnail
in Powerpoint before it is exported to Word? Applies to Office 2003 for
Windows XP.

No, the size of the thumbnail sent to Word by PowerPoint is hard coded.
This is part of the reason that I wrote my SlideIntoWord add-in for
PowerPoint. It allows for users to select a thumbnail width between 1/2
inch and 6 inches (the height is proportionally adjusted). You will also be
pleasantly surprised by the much smaller file size of the created Word
document.

You can download a demo version to see if this does what you need at

This is a very useful tool that will accomplish what we need, which is to
increase the size of the thumbnails to 3.5" globally. Improvements would be
to have control over borders, box size, etc.
