Tracking on MSP2003

How come when I update actual finish and start dates on MSP2003, the Start
and Finish date only move along (not as in MSP2007, it is fixed).

For example, one task was planned with Start on 1-May and Finish on 30-May.
When updating progress, the task actually started on 5-May and finished on
3-June. But the original plan also moves from 1may-30may to 5may-3jun. How
should I do to keep the Start and Finish unchanged?

Hi,

You can't, and that is logical.
The remainder of the plan such as tasks linked to this one is calculated
from this task's finish and that should be reality, not an out of date plan.
If you want to keep track of the original start and finish dates of tasks,
before tracking Tools, Tracking, save baseline. Then after tracking you can
compare old and nesw in teh tracking gantt view.
Hope this helps,

Hi Jan,

Thanks. How to show baseline on gantt chart?
The same Tracking Gantt Jan mentioned shows the Baseline and the Current
plans.
Actually, what it doesn't do, unless it's fixed in the latest release,
is show you the Tracking Table, which is much more useful for tracking,
than the Entry table that shows by default, with the Tracking Gantt. I
always change this the first time I use the Tracking Gantt after a new
install.
Hope this helps in your world.
