Trouble Setting Start and Finish Dates

For some reason and even though I am using a deployment template, I am having
trouble specifying a start and finish date and then the completion thereof.
It seems it only allows me to do one thing at a time. Why can't I just click
the cell and specify the start and finish date and have it do it for me? I
need specific dates on start and finish and it won't allow me to do that or
else I'm just plain too new at this.

Just a simple start and finish date without it having to calculate or
calculate it for me... Please help!!!

Hi makaiman,

The difficulty you are having in typing in the start and end dates for tasks
is because you are trying to manually do something that Project is designed
to do for you.

Project is a scheduling tool -- if you specify the start date for a task,
Project will calculate the end date of the task based upon the Start Date,
the project or resource calendar, and the duration. I suggest you set the
start date for the project (Project > Project Information), create your list
of tasks, add durations, and dependencies (predecessors and successors.).

You may want to take a look at Mike Glen's (Project MVP) series of articles

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
