Trying to make the jump to Outlook

Hi,

I'm trying to make the jump to Outlook, I have office 2007 and want to use
Outlook rather than Outlook Express which I have used for many years. The
problem is Outlook has so many more features and it's a bit intimidating.
I'm trying to make the view the want I like it and did it for my Inbox but
under my personal folders the view is still different.

I like it with no preview pane, in Outlook currently all my personal folders
have 3 columns, I just want 2 columns , the tree and the emails. I'm sure
there is a setting somewhere in Outlook to customize the view for all
folders but I can't find it..

I'd appreciate any and all help

'all my personal folders' surely you have a single set, which if expanded
(in tree view) shows the other folders eg Inbox, Sent etc?
The various views are adjusted via the View menu option, play with a couple
of the options (remembering what you have done so it can be undone)

Not trying to be rude but I have been trying to play with it.... maybe
someone who can answer my question will post.

I answered, you have to amend the Views of which there are 8 basic Views
with a large number of sub options.
If you have a View set that you are happy with for your Inbox, that same
view would be set for your Sent folder.
Remember your the only one who can see what you have so anyone trying to
help has to go by your description

No...NO....No maybe I didn't ask the question correctly. I'll try again

I like my email to look like this, on the left side I like to have just the
folders, on the right I want only the emails without preview or anything
else just the emails that tel me who it's from and the subject and date
sent. I got my inbox to look likethat but it seems that I have to do the
same for each folder, isn't there a setting that will have all my folders
set to the same look without me doing it manually to each folder ???

Sound like you want to turn the Reading Pane off.

Try this: View menu -> Reading Pane -> Off

David.

Yes but I don't want to have to do it for every folder, there should be a
setting that you can set all folders to look the same

Note that this also works to customize your panes. To get only the message
list and the folders, turn on Navigation Pane and turn off Preview Pane.

There must be changes from 2003 to 2007 which is what I have, When I get to
this step

Select the view *by name*, not using <Current View Settings>, otherwise, the
view will apply only to the currently selected folder. (When you click on
Arrange by and Customize... only the view for the current folder is
edited.)
Click Modify button to open the Customize view dialog, then Group button

I have no "Automatically group according to arrangement " to uncheck

Do you have the Advanced Toolbar active? Right click on the toolbar area
and enable it.

Then use of of the pre-defined dropdown views.

I did use the dropdown on the advanced toolbar, nowhere is there a "by name"
option for me
