turn off Saving when simply exiting a PowerPoint file

John Corbett

When I view a PowerPoint presentation without making any changes, invaribly I
get a message prompting me to save the file. This is only an annoyance when
working with one file, but when I link to another file (say, during a show),
when the linked file ends, I get that prompt, even during a show. How do I
turn this feature off?

If a show is opened and immediately closed, as long as if you have not
changed anything, than you should not be prompted to save the file.
However, some things may be changing that you are unaware of.

Do you have any add-ins loaded that may be changing the slides?

Are their links that are updating? (The data itself may not change, but the
update will register as a change)

Bill, yes, I do have an add-in installed for PowerPoint (Turning Point)... on
the two computers I'm using. Both machines exhibit the same behavior: All I
do is open a PowerPoint presentation, switch to show mode, view the
presentation, exit from show mode and then attempt to close the presentation
(while remaining in PowerPoint). I get the save prompt. This is a major
nuisance when I'm linking from one presentation to another and just want the
linked presentation to close. Do you believe that the Turning Point add-in
might be the culprit?

Thanks!

I'd bet that if you uninstalled the PowerPoint (Turning Point) add in
and rebooted that you'd not see this message again. Try that and get
back to us. If I am correct, get back to the Turning Point folks since
I"d bet they left the line to close the file as
ActivePresention.Close

instead of
ActivePresentation.close (false)

which shold close the pressie and not ask for the Save dialog.
