Typing doesn't show

When I type in a new document or edit and existing document the typing doesn't show. I can't even delet text in a document.

Also, most of the tool bar items are grayed out.

Please help.

Have you activated Word?
What Word version?

It is possible that your normal template is corrupt. You can delete it -
the file is normal.dot

then open Word and a new one is automaitcally created.
