Typing text into doc body and having it automatically appear in the header

Is it possible to type text into the body of a document
and have that same text appear in the header or footer of
a document?

For example, I would like to create a form where I have
the user fill in the name of a project. I would then like
that same project name to automatically appear in the
form's header.

Stick your form field into a specific Style, then use the STYLEREF field
code in the header/footer, referenced to that style. When the user types
something into that form field it will be duplicated in the header/footer,
although when I tried it you needed to scroll down the page and back up
again (in other words, so the header was not visible on the page, then back
up again so it was) in order to effect the change, but the change happens
nonetheless.

If you don't know what a STYLEREF code is, or how to use it, look it up in
the Word help pages where it is amply documented.

Although it is true that a StyleRef field is often used for this purpose, in
your case I think a Ref (Cross-reference) field will be more appropriate.
Every form field has a built-in bookmark; see the Form Field Options to
determine what the bookmark is (and change it if you like). Then, in the
header, Insert | Reference | Cross-reference to Bookmark: Bookmark text. Be
sure to check the "Calculate on exit" box in the Form Field Options to
assure that the cross-reference will update automatically.
