Unable to open linked files in email (Outlook 2003 SP3)

Hi all,

We're using MS Exchange 2003 Enterprise Server with Outlook 2003 SP3.

Our users have the following problem since Office SP3 was installed:

When an internal user receives an email from another internal user which has
a linked file (eg Word DOC file) attached, they are unable to open the linked
document (the Open option is grayed out if you right-click on the object).

The actual file is on a network share and both users have the correct rights
to access this file. If the receiving user opens the properties of the linked
file in the email, goes to the Link tab and clicks Open Source, the file
opens fine.

I've recreated this problem myself in Outlook 2003 SP3:
1. Create a test email and select Insert -> Object.
2. Choose Create from File and tick the Link box and tick Display as icon.
3. Select your file using the Browse button and click OK.

The object appears in the test email and you can open it ok (The Open option
isn't grayed out when you right-click on the linked file).
I sent the test email to myself and when you open the received test email,
you can't open the linked file (the Open option is grayed out if you
right-click on the file).

Anyone else have/seen this problem since Office SP3?

Hope you can help and thanks in advance.
