Unalbe to open 2003 file with 2007 beta 2

I have a website I built with Publisher 2003. I installed 2007 beta 2, and
now I can't open the 2003 file. It says the file has an error. I followed the
instructions in the KB for file recognition, and it still won't open the 2003
file. I like 2007, but don't want to recreate all of the work I did in 2003.

I would have talked you out of using the beta for a website. You can't be
certain what changes will occur between now and the released version.

Do you still have Publisher 2003 installed? Could you email me a couple
of the files in question to take a look at?

Yes, I still have the Office 11 files, I upgraded to 2007 instead of a fresh
install.

That's a good point about the final release. I like the 2007 interface and
ribbon. But how can I test the beta if I can't open my files with it? Kinda
defeats the purpose, doesn't it?

Since this is a web publication and DavidF is beta testing, go to the Publisher
web design newsgroup, he may have some ideas.
This URL will setup your newsreader for the Microsoft newsgroups.

....if you upgraded to 2007, then I'm guessing you *don't* have Office11
still installed. I was wondering whether the files in question would
still open in Publisher 2003.

No need. I have not had any problems opening Pub 2003 web docs in Pub 2007.
Pub 2000 a little...

I suspect that the tact Ed is pursuing is the way to go. It might be the way
the OP installed Pub 2007...custom or upgrade. I don't think you were
supposed to do an upgrade installation. It might simply be a corrupt file.
The compatibility converter does not mention it is not for Publisher...

Du'oh...there is no mention of needing the compatibility converter for
Publisher. Too quick to click...

David, I haven't tried a fresh install of the Beta. I can do that, after I
uninstall 2007 and 2003. I was assuming you had to had a copy of Office
installed before you could beta test 2007.

The file isn't corruped, it works just fine in Pub 2003, on this computer
and also on my laptop.

I'll uninstall both flavors of Office, and uninstall the conversion updates
and see where that leads me.

Yep, I have 2 folders in my Programs folder, Office 11 and Office 12, so the
files are still there. However, I'm going to follow DavidF's advice and do a
full install of 2007 instead of an upgrade. Maybe that will fix the
compatability issue.

I installed my version on a separate partition/dual boot, without any other
version of Office installed...not much of anything installed for that
matter. I do seem to remember that we were encouraged to totally uninstall
previous versions of the beta before installing, so hopefully this will work
for you.

And at least your file isn't corrupt...and you DID make a back up copy in
Pub 2003 format...right? ;-)

You might also turn off any antivirus software. I don't run Norton, but it
was known to fight with Pub 2003...
