Update ActiveX Control Failed to Load

On a new install (new system) of XP pro w/SP2 included. Installed all Windows
updates.
Installed Office 2003 Pro
Trying to update Office 2003 by using "Check for Updates" site I receive
"Update ActiveX Control Fail to Load" page after attempting to allow Dir-X to
load through IE (one of those yellow menu warning labels offers "Allow
Active-X...). End up at a page that suggests deleting cookies, history,
objects...etc. Still won't load. Turned off all pop-up blockers, all
firewalls(XP was only firewall), Did everything in Article ID : 304498
"Update process quits unexpectedly after you click "Check for Updates" on the
Office Update Web site".
Uninstalled Office. Used: Article ID : 295823 tool to uninstall/clean-up....
Still won't work.

This box is behind SBS. It replaces a defective(hardware) XP Pro SP2 box
that had Office Pro that was able to "check for updates".

Bad Office...bad. Make Hulk mad...

I forgot...
If I clear cookies, history, Internet files, a window will come up that asks
if I want to install the Office Update Active -x... It tries to install but
stops and gives me the error page.
