Update Office 2000 running on Windows 98 SE?

I just did a clean install of Windows 98 SE and all related updates,
including Internet Explorer v6.0. I installed Office 2000 Premium, but could
not get it to update. After I click the "check for updates" link, I'm taken
to a new page that says the Office Update Engine is loading, but it never
completes. I'm redirected to another page, but the yellow box never appears
asking me to install the ActiveX control.

I've deleted all temp files, internet browser cache, and history, but this
doesn't help.

Is Office Update not compatible with either Windows 98 or Office 2000? If
not, do I have to download the 3 service packs for Office 2000 and apply them
manually?

Thanks....

I'm running Office 2K SBE under Win98SE, and Office Update usually runs
just fine. You might want to find and manually install version 2 of the
Office Update Installer, to see if that helps.

In any case, needing to download and install the required service packs
(SR-1 and SP3) manually wouldn't be the worst thing to happen; having
them on your backup disks will make restoring your system after a hard
drive crash a little easier.

Hope this helps.

I recently had the same trouble. Had to reinstall Win 98, IE 6, O2K, but
couldn't
get the updates and there's no yellow bar/box thingie.

Tried the stuff on this page: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304498
No Joy.

Got the Installer 2.0 from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...8-c094-4255-b702-de3bb768148f &displaylang=en
No Luck.

The trouble turned out to be that there was no OPUC.DLL anywhere.

Grabbed the .CAB from here:
http://office.microsoft.com/officeupdate/content/opuc3.cab

Used EXTRACT to get OPUC.DLL, used REGSVR32 to register the .DLL

Huzzah! Office Update Works! It's still a pain because you have to update
to SR1a, then SR3, and then get the security updates.
