I need to create an HTML verification file and upload it to my domain. Can
anyone tell me how to do this? I'm trying to verify my site with Google and
have only limited techncial knowledge of the Internet and web design, even
though I have designed and published my own website using Publisher.

Hi Don and thanks for your help. If only it were that easy! I have tried to
reload the website with a blank page with the file name that Google gave me.
However, Google states: "We've detected that your verification file returns a
status of 404 (Not found) in the header". I've racked my brains trying to
think of alternative ways to do this, and I keep getting the same result.

Am I doing something wrong? I hope you can help.

I am not familiar with what kind of file Google needs, but you can create an
empty .txt file with NotePad, save it to your computer with the name that
Google is looking for, and then change the extension from .txt to .htm or
..html. Then if you are using FTP uploading protocol just upload that file to
the root directory, or in other words at the same directory level as the
index.htm file and the index_files folder that Publisher produces. If you
aren't using FTP, then log on to your web host control panel and use their
file manager to upload the file.

If you have a follow up question or new questions about Publisher webs, then
post in the web group and we will try to help you there:
