Usage Question

Hi all,

I have two issues that I am sure are to do with setup.

The first issue is that of hours. If I set up a task that has 500hrs and
then assign two people to it, is there a way of automatically reducing the
time on the gantt chart to show 250hrs?

The second issue is to do with task splitting. I have another task which
requires a weeks work and then a break of three weeks. The remainder of the
work will be done after that but by someone different than that of the first
week. When I click and drag out a task for the second section of work, I get
a split dotted line and I cannot seem to be able to assign two different
people as described.

If someone can shed some light on how to overcome these problems or some
alternative practices / usages then I would be most greatful.

Thanks

1. Make the task type fixed units and check the box that says Effort Driven.
If you add additional resources, the duration will decrease to reflect the
new resource allocation. If you want to split the work, try Window/Split.
Select the task desired and then assign resources and work in the bottom
pane. As long as the sum of the work is 500 hours you are fine.
2. Make them two different tasks. You can always use a predecessor on Task2
of Task1 +3w.

Remove the resources from the task. Go into the Task Information box
and make the Task Type "Fixed Work", "Effort Driven"
Add one of the resources
Add the second resource. Voila!
Effort Driven makes the task overall duration change as resources are
added or subtracted, but it must be done one resource at a time.
The second issue is to do with task splitting. I have another task which
requires a weeks work and then a break of three weeks. The remainder of the

There's a much more complicated and clever workaround for your
situation, but I like simple, like me! :) Break this into 2 tasks.
Much easier to handle than messing around with making this all happen
to a single task. You can even give both tasks the same name but with
"Part 1" and "Part 2" added to the name, or something like that.

Hope this helps in your world!
