Viewing a word doc in 2007

Hi,

Can anyone tell me how or if I can view a word doc. in the 'Open File'
dialogue box
before I choose to open it.

I'm running Word 2007 in Vista 64.

In Word 2003 you could divide the 'Open File' dialogue box into left and
right views,
this would enable you to highlight a file in the left pane and see it's
contents in the right pane.

Can you do this or similar in Word 2007?

Thanks

Andy

Yes, it is still the same in 2007. In the open dialogue just click on the
little arrow next to the last icon "views" a pull down menu comes out and
select preview.

I don't seem to get that, all I get is the options for different size
icons and that's it!

Should i be setting something up somewhere in Vista or Word?

Thanks

Hi Andy,

In Office Button=>Open in Vista see if turning on the
[x] Save Thumbnail
choice at the bottom of the dialog helps with showing the preview if choosing a different 'View' in that dialog doesn't show the
files.

Well that has given me thumbnails of the documents but
I couldn't say what was written in the documents.

The issue for me here is to be able to see the content of invoices
without having to open 50 to find the one I want.

In Word 2003 I could view the invoices in the open dialogue easily.

Thanks

It doesn't work in Word 2007 on Vista. You can turn the preview pane on
(Organize->Layout->Preview Pane), but you won't see the preview if you are in
the File Open of that application. e.g. you can't preview a Word doc from
Word's File Open.

It's an issue we are aware of on the Office team.

Recommendation: preview from Explorer and double-click (or right-click) to
open in Word.
