Viewing tasks by start date

Hi

I am a newbie to MS Project and am trying to view all the tasks in the
project in date order. My project has quite a detailed level of outlining as
it has been separated into many phases that run concurrently. I want to be
able to sort the plan by start date while ignoring the outlining and cannot
seem to be able to do so. When I sort by the start date using the sort
function it will only sort the dates of subtasks and will not allow me to
sort all tasks.

Is there a way to view the plan so that as you scroll down you can see every
task that will be happening at that time in all of the phases rather then
having to look at each phase individually? Currently we have about 1000 tasks
and as you can imagine going through each phase can be timely.

Thanks in anticipation

Hi Again

It's amazing what walking away from your computer and coming back can do - I
have just found the button in the sort box that ignores outlining. Sorry for
the stupid question I just posted...

Ange,
Very few if any questions are stupid. We have all had to slap ourselves
in the head and say "duh" from time to time. I'm just glad you were able
to find the answer quickly. If you have other questions/issues with
Project, post again, we will be glad to help.

Hi Ange,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

As a newbie, you might like to have a look at my series on Microsoft Project
in the TechTrax ezine. The April 2006 article is about Sorting. See:

(Perhaps you'd care to rate the article before leaving the site, :)
Thanks.)

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: <http://www.mvps.org/project/>

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)
