Visual Basic message

I have Office 97. Lately, whenever I open (and close) either Word or Excel,
I get the following message:

Microsoft Visual Basic
Compile error in hidden module: AutoExecNew
OK Help

Clicking "Help" doesn't tell me anything useful. Clicking OK lets me use
either application without any problem, so this message is just an annoyance,
so far as I can tell. Can anyone tell me what it means, and how I can either
fix whatever problem is generating this message, or stop the message from
appearing? Any help would be appreciated!

A "compile" error means that there is an error in a macro or add-in
that is attempting to run. Typically these macros are created by a
third-party and are not part of the Word installation. (They could
also be caused by a malfunctioning macro virus as well)

In Word go to Tools/Templates and Add-Ins and see if there are any
global templates or add-ins listed. If you find any then chances are
they are located in your Office\Startup folder or Word\Startup folder.

The location of the Word\Startup folder can be found under
Tools/Options/File Locations and the Office\Startup folder will be
located in the installation path for Office.(You can also use Windows
Search and search for the file names)

For Excel locate the XLStart folder.

If you find more than one add-in move them one at a time until you
determine which one is causing the problem.

I did some sleuthing and found that the problem most likely lies in add-ins.
I'll check some things out when I go home tonight, and if I still have a
problem I'll post back that I still need help.
