Visual File Card

What is a "visual file card", and how does it differ from a table?

Someone wrote in another forum that one does not need to use tables to link
data, but that in Access one can use visual file cards instead. Can anyone
explain the difference between them, and why one is better than the other?

I have no idea, except that it is nothing native to Access/Access VBA. And
googling the phrase brings up no matches relating to Access.

Not really sure what the statement

"one does not need to use tables to link data"

means. All data in Access is held in tables. The data in multiple tables can
be related thru the Access Relationship Window or thru Queries, but I don't
know that you'd actually say that you "use tables to link data."

At a guess, "visual file cards" may be part of a third party program that
uses Access as a backend, but as I said, searching on line for the term in
conjunction with Access brings up nothing germane. .

As far as I know, there is nothing like that in Access. You do not
necessarily need to link to a table in Access though. You can link (or
import) a spreadsheet, or several types of text files. You can also link or
import from other databases.

Don't know what you mean "visual file card". Maybe you're talking about paper
tapes or punched cards of the days of early computers? Maybe you
misunderstood what were they talking about?

You can link a file to Access but not something like a paper card or a
plastic card. It is possible to link to a memory card or flash/thumb drives
or special card with memory chip with a database file. But I don't think
someone have used a memory card as a whole database or container of data.
Doesn't make sense. Even if you can, creating a program in the memory card
for distribution is it worth the time and money? If it's a simple application,
that's ok.

For a complicated application, you have create some form of replication or
syncronizing data with multiple memory cards especially IDs. If you don't,
you'll have a massive headache coming.
