Watermark

Is there a way to insert a watermark on one page of a long document (e.g.,
the title page) rather than creating two seperate documents (e.g., a title
page and the document itself)?

Similarly, I have created two documents (e.g., a title page and the body of
a document). When I tried to insert the title page that has a border and a
watermark into the body document, the title page elements (other than the
text) disappeared. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

First you need to understand that a watermark in Word is just a graphic
anchored to the Header paragraph. Even if you use Format | Background |
Printed Watermark in Word 2002/2003 to insert the watermark, that's all it
is. By design, anything in a header will repeat on every page. So there are
three ways to have a watermark on a single page.

1. One is to insert a section break after the single page (or around it, if
it's in the middle of a document) and unlink the header in that section from
those preceding and following (for more, see
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/HeaderFooter.htm).

2. The second (which will work if you want the watermark only on the first
page of a document or section) is to check the box for "Different first
page" on the Layout tab of Page Setup and anchor the watermark to the First
Page Header.

3. The third is to anchor the watermark to a paragraph on the page itself
(in the document body).

In each case, the watermark must be formatted with Behind Text wrapping.

f you have inserted a watermark using Format | Background | Printed
Watermark, you can use the watermark Word has created for any of the above
methods. Instead of removing the watermark through the dialog, View |
Header, select the watermark, and Ctrl+X to cut it. Then, when you have
created your isolated section or First Page Header (or in the document body
on the specific page), use Ctrl+V to paste it back. Alternatively, for
method 1, you can, after unlinking sections, go to the header and delete the
watermark from the header of every section except the one where it's wanted.

If you have an earlier version of Word, see “HOW TO: Create a Watermark in
Word 97 and in Microsoft Word 2000â€
