What happens in installation when product key is not valid?

I have keyed in the correct # from what was listed on my CD container from
the yellow sticker that plainly states - Product Key. What do I do when I
open of the programs (Excel, Word, Access, etc...) have to type in the
product key, but it will not accept it? What do I do? Any help will be
greatly appreciated!
