Yesterday I started getting emails asking to be removed
from a mailing list. I did not send them to these people
why am I getting the "remove me' emails and how can I
stop them.

Your e-mail address is being quoted in spam e-mails as the origin of some
dopey mailing list.

If you don't know what they are talking about, ignore them.
