Why did my Office programs start having problems opening files?

If I double-click an Office 2003 file now, it opens the associated program,
but not the file within the program. I have to go to the open file dialog
window, since that way still works. When the program opens, there is nothing
inside it: no file, no blank new page. Just the toolbars and a gray
background. With all of the programs, if I open them by their shortcuts,
they open fine with a blank document. I have not recently installed any new
macros. I have tried repairing, then uninstalling and reinstalling Office.
I have tried deleting "normal.dot" and letting Office rebuild it. I have
tried temporarily removing the items in my Office startup folder. None of my
non-Office apps have this problem. This problem started seemingly randomly.

Thanks for the help!
