why did my top task date change, and why I can't change it back

I created a task, and when i created a sub taks it changed my dates and lock
the field. how can i unlock the filed i am at (e-mail address removed) thanks

Summary tasks (your top task I think) only ever show the rolled up values
for all subtasks. You can't change them. To recover, outdent your subtasks.
Create a new task to be your summary task.
