why doesn't list of attachments show on printed copies?

I can't get the list of attachments included in a message to show when I print a copy of that message for my file. Any ideas

I think the message has to be in plain text format for the attachment names
to print.

That may work on received mails, but doesn't on sent ones.

This problem is very common it seems, why isn't there a patch to make it work for all formats of message, whether sent or received?
