Why doesn't start date recalc when a predecessor finish date is changed?

Tom

I am trying to get all of the upstream start dates to recalc when I change
the finish date of a predecssor, but don't know how. They seem to stick to
the original start date for some reason, which means they can appear to
start before the predecssor finishes.

Is there some type of setting for this?

Hi Tom

By default Project SHOULD recalculate the start dates for successors when
the finish date for the predecessors change - if the tasks are linked.

However, if you have typed dates directly into the start column for the
successors, you have "constrained" those tasks within project and then they
may not recalculate automatically. In Project, on of the guiding rules is
that you do not type directly into the start / finish columns but use the
links to set the schedule for the successors.

Another reasons that start dates do not recalculate is that "actual work"
has been entered against them (ie the % complete is greater than zero).

A third reason may be that your project is set to recalculate manually
rather than automatically - check under tools / options / calculations.

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on.

Cheers
