Why the temp file?

John

periodically I clean up *.tmp files assuming they are temporary files.
Office 2003 apparently MUST have the file fbc224.tmp on the computer to
run. Why is this? Is there a workaround?

Twice I've erased it by mistake and then have to reinstall office.

Its not a file required by Office, except apparently on your sys
Are you removing in IE, and is it located in the default tmp folder?

it was in .....application data\microsoft\office

I changed it to fbg224.tmp.bak and everything is working so I guess I
was wrong. I remember a couple times, though, where i had to re-install
when I deleted it. Strange.

Now I found the real culprit. It is OPA11.bak dated 10/17/2002. When I
cleaned out all the bak files office stopped working and I discovered it
was this one. So why does microsoft have a major component as a BAK
file? I notice there is also a opa11.dat dated 12/19/2004. What are
these for?
