why wont gif play in powerpoint?

my GIF file works in picutre and fax viewer but wont animate in powerpoint
presentation. ARRRRGGHH!!!

Which version of PowerPoint do you have? Are you in Slide Show Mode or in
Normal Mode?

HINT: You must have at least PowerPoint 2000 AND be in Slide Show mode for
it to work.

powerpoint 2003 and it doesnt animate in slide show.
in the help file it saysd you should choose whether the clip will animate
automatically or on click "when the message displays" but a message doesnt
siplay when i insert GIF files.

i inserted them in the "sounds and movies" section of the insert menu.
im stumped.

To insert a picture into the presentation,
Click Insert > Picture > From File.
Search for the picture and click OK.

thanks! the answer was in the sonia coleman tutorial. if the gif is set to
animate once it wont animate at all in powerpoint 2003, i changed the
settings so the GIF would loop several times and powerpoint played it
perfectly.
