Will Office 2000 work on new computer with XP operating system?

I have a new computer with Windows XP (Home) installed and an older copy of
MS Office 2000 (Professional). Can I load Office on the new operating
system? Do I need to upgrade to a newer version of Office? MS Office 2000
has all of the bells and whistles I need for a home computer.

Yes, you can install it on your new computer, no problem. I have Office 2000
Pro on both XP Home and Pro.

I have an IBM Thinkpad X31 and having freshly installed XP Home I wanted to
install Office 2000 Professional. This has failed with a pop-up asking me to
insert the XP Professional SP2 CD which I don't have. Why would it ask for
this? I have installed this previously on my desktop which has XP
Professional with no problems. What is wrong?

Have you installed SP 2 on this machine? If not, do it and then try
installing Office.

I have successfully installed Office 2000 Pro on my Win XP SP2 laptop. However "Office 2000" does not appear anywhere - only INDIVIDUAL COMPONENTS (Word, etc.). Is this a problem ?

Hi mbNorski,

The Word 2000 product key appears on its CD case. It is not the same as the Windows XP product key.
