Word 2000 not opening properly

W

WendyB

I've got a new computer… pc / vista home premium / service pack 1

I use Outlook 2007 and have installed office 2007 and uninstalled Word 2007
(I prefer to use Excel and Word 2000)

I installed Office 2000 and am able to use Excel 2000 without difficulty but
cannot get Word to open correctly… the 'window' opens but there are no menus
or tool bars and it then says 'not responding'.

I have looked for the startup folder, it is empty and the registry does not
show a startup folder.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2000 several times. My last
reinstall was to c:\microsoft office\office -- word still does not open fully.

I have used Winword.exe /a and that does open Word…. help, please, please,
please help.

thank you so very, very much!

Thanks macropod - I've tried all of those and no help. Changing one of the
registry keys did add some buttons but still wouldn't open word.

However, the clicking on the task bar and pressing F3 only opened a "Find"
box at the bottom of the window, no options of clicking 'include subfolders'.
I'm thinking that this must be the search thingy on the start menu and I
will try that to find the temp folders etc.

I'm a newbie with Windows Vista so finding the things that I knew with XP
are also a little frustrating!

The guided help sounds fantastic but my issue is with Word 2000. :-(

another other ideas? Again, THANKS!!!

Thank you macropod... I have tried renaming normal.dotm; normal11.dot; and
another email... dotm - that didn't help.

I've renamed the registry keys and one of the changes added a few buttons
but still did not open Word 2000.

I'd love to have that guided help but that does not pertain to 2000.

I also could not get the search window up by clicking on the task bar and
hitting F3 - I'm assuming that it was the search window the help links were
sending me to.

I'm a Windows Vista newbie and learning....

Any other ideas? I sure appreciate you time with this!

Hello Wendy,

I see Macropod is looking after you very well. For your information for
future occasions, you've landed in a discussion group for users of Mac
versions of Word. Mac versions differ variously from PC versions. Although
several people here use both PCs and Macs, it's likely that more people in a
PC group have experienced your specific problem. Here's where all the groups
are listed:

Hi Wendy,
Word 2000 does open with windward.exe /a
I'm not surprised - you should use winword.exe /a
