Word 2003 - crashes without error when opening documents.

Hello! I have Word 2003 (part of Office 2003 Small Business edition). I can
load the program without a problem, but as soon as I open a document in it,
it crashes. There is no error message, the program simply disappears. It's
no longer listed in the task manager. The problem applies to all documents.
If I go into My Documents and double-click on a word document, Word opens for
an instant then vanishes.
I've run detect and repair for Word alone and for the whole of Office. I've
also looked in the event viewer and there's nothing in there.

Please could someone advise me how to troubleshoot this odd problem?
