Word 2007 Text Boxes with numbered text

S

Suilven

Create some text boxes on a page and put numbered paragraphs in them. In my
case, one para per box. Now promote a couple of textboxes in the Z Order (ie
bring them to top). Everything should look fine on the screen or in print
preview, but if you print, the boxes are renumbered according to their Z
Order.

Any work-arounds? Bit of a show-stopper for me.

Paragraph numbering isn't necessarily reliable when applied to text within
text boxes.

I'd number the paragraphs using SEQ fields instead. Note, however, that SEQ
field numbers are assigned based on the relative location of the text box
*anchors*. Make sure that the text boxes are anchored to separate paragraphs
(in the logical order); then update the fields, for example by switching to
Print Preview and then back to your favorite view.

For more on SEQ fields, see the following article:

Field codes: Seq (Sequence) field

To insert a SEQ field you can use the Field dialog box (see the article). If
you are using Word 2007, here's how to display the dialog box: On the
References tab, click Quick Parts, and then click Field.

However, note that you can insert the field code directly in the document:
just press Ctrl+F9 to add the field delimiters, { }, and then type in the
code.
