Word always opens in safe mode

Office xp is running on Windows ME. The Word part of
Office always opens with the message: "Micorsoft Word has
encountered a problem and needs to close." Choose
Restart. Start ni Safe mode? Yes. Check for disabled
items, find NO disabled items. What's happening? How to
stop it? Thanks for any help. --DJ
