word crashes when opening a .doc from idisk

all,

I recently moved all my files to the iDisk to keep my Macs in sync. I have a local copy of the iDisk on my harddrives. Now, every time I try to open an old word document that I once had on my local hard drive and now on my iDisk, MS Word 2008 crashes. This happens on my iMac as well as on my Macbook Air. I have all updates installed (Mac OS and MS Office).

Does anyone have this problem as well? Or even better, does someone out there have a solution?

Thanks in advance!

I suspect you are not the only one to have this problem, but you are the
first to report it so clearly that we know what the cause is.

I will now need to ask the developers what the root cause could be, and what
do do about it. That could take a week or so to get an answer.

In the meantime: "How" are you opening the documents?

If you mount the iDisk, and then use File>Open from within Word to open the
document, what happens?

That procedure removes from the opening process several of the steps the
computer would otherwise have to do. Doing this, the computer "already
knows" where the disk is, and where the documents within it are. This
removes a lot of the opportunity for things to "not work".

So I am interested in whether that changes the outcome :)

Cheers

Hi John,

thanks for your answer! I checked different processes of opening a document and it makes no difference. word crashes no matter if i open the file with a double click or via file->open. the problem must be somewhere else...

cheers

Thanks Mark:

I still have no answer from Microsoft on this ‹ I guess they don't know
either :)

One last try: do you have Preferences>Save>Always make backup set on or
off? If it's ON, it will attempt to write a copy of the file back to the
iDisk, which might fail if the authentication fails.

Cheers
