Word document opens as "reading layout" and comes up as read only

Andranik

Hi,

I have 2 problems I am hoping to get resolved:

1. I am trying to fighure out how to change the default layout of word
documents that open with the project server 2003 document library for any
project. I have gone to the "Customize Shared Documents", and attempted to
edit the template. It saves like the system took it, but when I open another
document, it shows up with the reading layout again.

2. Everytime I save a document and open it up again, it comes up as read
only. Yet I can still modify it. I did some searching and found some people
suggested that the file may be checked out by another person. So I created a
new document and was confronted with same problem again. I am the
administrator and have full access. I made sure the documents were not read
only, and had no restrictions before I uploaded them.

Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks

Andranik,
Well actually you have 3 problems, and the first one is that you have
posted to the wrong newsgroup. This newsgroup is devoted to
questions/issues with Microsoft Project, a planning and scheduling
application. I suggest you post to one of the many newsgroups that deal
with MS Word.

John,

I am not having problems microsoft word specifically. The problem I am
having is when word opens from the document library of a project from project
server 2003. Therefore I don't think as MS Word newsgroup would be able to
help me.

Hi Andranik,

I am not well versed in Project Server, but this may assist as the same
issue (opening a document in reading layout)occurs when opening a file
attachment from an email message.

In MS Word, there is an option to disable the opening in Reading Layout
view. In Word, go to Tools > Options, and on the general tab, remove the
check from "Allow starting in Reading Layout." Again, I don't know if
disabling the option in Word will fix the problem with Project Server,
but it does fix the issue in Outlook.

To your other question about opening files as read-only, try posting to
the Server Newsgroup (Microsoft.public.project.server). This newsgroup
focuses on the desktop version of project and the server newsgroup
focuses on Project Server and Project Web Access.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Andrnik,
OK, Project Server, whole different ballgame. Based on that I would
suggest you post to the server newsgroup, but Julie already beat me to
it.
